The Wetzel Family’s Pinot Noir vineyard is planted along the banks of the Russian River, where the morning fog lingers and cools the vines. The vineyard is planted to three clones – Dijon 777, for rich concentration and black fruit; Dijon115, for soft tannins and perfume and Pommard, for color, dark fruit and spice
The nose is already quite impressive, showing lemon skin, grapefruit, honeysuckle, and pear, with a “rusty” savoury type of edge. The palate shows boundless energy, fine tannin and trademark towering acidity. It’s the type of wine that builds in the mouth, revealing more of itself, unfolding, cascading.
Chris and Suzaan Alheit truly represent some of what is cool and new in South Africa. They work with some very old vineyards, using no sulphur or intervention in the fermentation, elevage is exclusively in neutral oak, and the wines are rich, textured, and very age-worthy.
The backbone of the blend comes from an old Hondarribia beltza vineyard planted in 1840, preserved by the Ameztoi family for generations. Ameztoi Rubentis is an authentic original, a wine that is often imitated but never replicated.

Produced from selected parcels of Monteulciano grapes grown in the Chieti province of Abruzzo, on southeast Italy’s Adriatic coast. This delicious wine comes from 15-20 year old vines trained using the ancient method of trellising, known as “pergola.” They are planted to clay-rich soils, hand-harvested and wild yeast fermented for 2 weeks on the skins in stainless tanks. After a light fining and filtering, the wine is bottled. It offers rich, bright plum and cherries, with a lip-smacking finish.
An homage to the epic wine professional, Michael Broadbent, who founded Broadbent (one of our importers!) and also started the original wine auction in 1966 in collaboration with Christie’s auction house. This wine is made in the old-school Napa style, with balance, acidity, structure, and lots of delicious dark fruit character.
Biodynamics are not something you see a lot of in Champagne, and Marc Augustin is one of the few to really own this ideology and method of viticulture. Marc works the land carefully and with tremendous respect, and this is demonstrated clearly in the wines, named after the elements.
