Winemaker Notes
The 2018 vintage was one of exceptional quality for Heitz Cellar. The cooler to moderate temperatures during the growing season allowed us to balance sugar and phenolic maturity in the fruit while maintaining natural acidity to help preserve the fresh characteristics of the vintage. The elegance and balanced structure of the 2018 vintage will make this an incredible wine to drink upon release and will continue to reward with cellar aging.

Winemaker’s Tasting Notes
Rich aromas of ripe black cherry, Mission fig and dark chocolate
mingle with a spice box of clove and nutmeg. The palate is filled with
flavors of juicy blackberry and boysenberry that are enveloped in
silky tannins, showing complexity beyond its years. Enticing flavors of
fresh vanilla bean and hazelnut carry through a velvety richness that
lingers on the finish. Enjoy now after decanting for 45 minutes or cellar
through 2038.

Our approach to Pinot Noir is very similar to Chardonnay but we have two clones. For the last 25 years, we’ve been working on selecting which of the two we preferred and we finally concluded that the answer was both. We’ve been planting our newer Pinot Noir Vineyards with a field mix of the two selections of late, giving deference to neither and laying the groundwork for our next generation of Pinot Noirs to be as transparent to site, and their relativity to each other, as are our Chardonnays. Both selections are marked by very low yields, small berries, great concentration and color in the fruit, and a propensity to hold their natural acids during ripening.
The wines are composed of both French Dijon and heritage clones. They undergo extended maceration and cuvaison up to four weeks, and are aged 14 months in 100% new French oak barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Founded in 1978, Kistler Vineyards is a small, family-owned and operated winery specializing in the production of Burgundian-style Chardonnay and limited amounts of Pinot Noir. Grapes are estate-grown and purchased from vineyards in Sonoma County. In 1992, Kistler Vineyards moved all production to its Vine Hill Road Vineyard in the Russian River Valley.

VINEYARD: Estate Grown from vineyards at our Mayacamas Estate and our Rutherford Estate WINEMAKER’S COMMENTS: “As soon as the wine hits the glass, the vibrant hue suggests youthfulness and balance. The nose has plenty of blackberry and dried plum fruitiness alongside Cabernet-true earthiness. The complexity of the varietal character ranges from green peppercorn to fir…

This brilliant, burgundy-hued wine immediately offers up fragrances of mixed berries, Bing cherry, cola, candied violets, and black tea along with exotic spices and dried herbs. On the palate, there is a compelling mix of broad tannins and minerality, along with a seductive measure of
smoky oak balanced with juicy acidity. Black plum, brambleberry, cassis, and wet slate create a layered and lingering finish.
